The opening of Gallery Aloft in December 2007 marked the arrival of an exquisite new contemporary art space in the heart of inner Sydney. It is the first phase of an innovative new collaboration of art and design by highly sought after artists, painter Tania Wursig and jewellery designer Kristina Brenke. Gallery Aloft is situated in Rozelle amidst the artistic hub that is quickly defining the area as Sydney’s newest gallery district. At 660 Darling St, visitors can take the stairs to the first floor and discover a local gallery with an international outlook. Gallery Aloft prides itself on showing high quality, contemporary art across a range of styles from both emerging and established artists. It is gradually building its own distinctive visual language from a wide selection of works which are bold, fresh and vibrant. The unusual union of designer and artist began in the sharing of a studio which adjoins the gallery. The creative partners hope to use this opportunity to give visitors a unique window into the art-making process. Both artists are at work on-site during opening hours and visitors can take a peak into the studios beyond to see them at work in their respective states of creativity and chaos.
